The Masonic Temple was designed by the the architectural firm of Alden and Harlow, and the construction contractor was the Henry Schenk Company, a well-respected local builder with offices in Erie and Pittsburgh.
Just a few months after the groundbreaking in 1909, the architectural plans for the building were changed to include a sixth floor and penthouse. The building opened in the summer of 1910, and featured ornately carved woodwork, plaster-relief ceilings, marble-blocked corridors (which are intact even today).
The building has seen change. In 1930, banquet facilities and a kitchen were added to the basement (Camelot Room). In 1960, automatic elevators were installed, and, in 1964, a choir loft/balcony and accompanying wooden stairway was installed on the fourth floor Masonic Lodge Room.
The tour will begin on the third floor, suite 302.
