Restoration work and reuse efforts involving the US District Court for the Western District of PA have been acknowledged with numerous awards. Our tour of the courthouse complex will include courtrooms that have been carefully restored and artifacts and murals discovered during renovation of the old library building.
The courtrooms located on the second floor are the most elaborately finished spaces of the building. These rooms are handsome period designs, trimmed in paneled wood wainscotting and capped by molded friezes at the height of the door heads. The rooms are crowned by decorative plaster ceilings. Each courtroom is part of a complex of service rooms that include the judge’s chambers, the clerk’s offices, and a library.
The tour will meet at the main entrance to the courthouse along S. Park Row.
Due to security issues, the tour will take place during the day. Please feel free to bring a portable lunch with you, and we will munch and walk at the same time.
