Saint Hedwig Church Backstage Erie Tour

Tucked away on Erie’s historic East Bayfront at Third and Wallace Streets is Saint Hedwig Church, Erie’s Tudor Gothic gem. Built in 1927, the church is a dark rose and beige faceted stone edifice embellished with sculpted Tudor tracery.  European stained glass windows, executed by Joseph Herzig of Munich in 1934, line the way to the sanctuary.  A magnificent silver and gold icon of the “Black Madonna with Child” vested in ornamental crowns and regal raiment – originally from Poland – is an artistic focal point of the church.
