The invention and widespread use of the automobile brought about changes in urban design, and Erie’s oldest subdivision, Garden Court, exemplifies these changes. Garden Court homes (1907-1930) are set back from the street and screened by trees, front lawns and sidewalks. Garages are located behind each home and are accessible from lanes that enter the center courtyard from the four corners of the block. Further restrictions stated that houses “shall not cost less than $3,500.”
Tour is limited to 15 people, so tickets must be purchased in advance.
The tour will begin in east Gridley Park.
